What to Expect in Therapy

Taking that first step toward counselling can feel daunting, especially when you're not quite sure what therapy actually looks like, or whether it's right for you.

This page is here to answer some of those questions and help you get a feel for how we'd work together.

Whether you're coming with something specific in mind or just a sense that something needs to change, you're in the right place.

What Our Sessions Feel Like

Sessions are 50 minutes, held either in person in Worthing or online, whichever works best for you.

There's no set agenda and no pressure to have things figured out before you arrive.

We start wherever you are. Some people come knowing exactly what they want to talk about.

Others arrive with just a feeling they can't quite name yet. Both are completely fine.

Over time, as trust builds, we go deeper, exploring patterns, making connections, and gently challenging the things that might be keeping you stuck.

It's collaborative, honest work. And it moves at your pace.

What you can expect from me is consistency, warmth, and a down-to-earth style that helps you feel comfortable from the start.

I'm genuinely interested in understanding your experience, not just your symptoms or your story, but you as a whole person.

My Approach

I work integratively, which means I don't follow a single rigid method.

Instead I draw on a range of approaches and adapt them to what you need, because no two people or situations are the same.

At the heart of everything is the relationship between us.

Research consistently shows that the quality of the therapeutic relationship matters more than any particular technique.

So my first priority is always creating a space where you feel genuinely safe, understood and free to be yourself.

From there we might explore how past experiences are shaping the present, notice patterns in how you relate to yourself and others, or simply sit with something that's been hard to carry alone.

I'll follow your lead while also offering gentle challenge when it feels right.

You already have a sense of what feels true for you. My job is to help you trust it and move towards it.

Areas I Work With

The areas I work with all connect back to a shared experience: sitting with the gap between the life you imagined and the life

you're actually living. That gap can feel like grief, anxiety, confusion, or just a sense that something isn't right. Whatever brought you here, you don't have to keep carrying it alone.

When Life Doesn't Go to Plan

Anxiety and Self-Doubt

When your mind won't quiet down and you can't quite trust yourself

Anxiety can show up in so many ways, the constant overthinking, the self-doubt, the feeling that you're always waiting for

something to go wrong. Together we'll explore what's underneath it and help you find a steadier relationship with your own thoughts and feelings.

Life Transitions and Career Shifts

When the life you planned no longer fits

Starting over, changing direction, or finding yourself somewhere you never expected, life transitions can shake your sense of identity and purpose. Whether it's a career change, a relationship ending, or simply the feeling that something needs to shift, I can help you find your footing again.

Grief and Loss, Including Disenfranchised Grief

For the losses that don't always get acknowledged

Grief isn't only about death. It can be the loss of a future you hoped for, a relationship, a sense of self, or a life that didn't go to plan. Disenfranchised grief, the kind that others don't always recognise or validate, can feel particularly lonely.

This is a space where all grief matters.

Depression

When everything feels flat, heavy or hard to explain

Depression can make it hard to reach out, hard to see a way through, and hard to believe things can feel different. You don't need to arrive with energy or hope, just the willingness to show up. We'll take it from there, gently and at your pace.

Identity and Belonging

Cultural Identity and Belonging

When you're navigating who you are across different worlds

Moving countries, straddling cultures, or feeling like you don't fully belong anywhere, these experiences can be disorienting and isolating. Having lived in three countries myself, I understand the complexity of rebuilding identity and finding your place. This is a space where all parts of you are welcome.

Relationships, Sexuality and LGBTQ+

Exploring who you are and how you connect with others

Relationships, with others and with yourself, can be some of the most complex and painful territory to navigate. I offer a genuinely inclusive, non-judgmental space to explore relationship difficulties,

sexuality, and identity. I'm a proud LGBTQ+ ally and welcome clients of all identities and relationship structures.

Neurodivergent Affirming Practice and

Late Diagnosis

When everything makes sense, and nothing does at the same time

Receiving a late diagnosis of autism, ADHD, or both can be life-changing, validating, confusing, and grief-inducing all at once. It can reframe your whole history and raise new questions about your identity, your relationships, and the way you've always moved through the world.

I offer a neurodivergent affirming space where we can explore what this means for you, at

your own pace and without judgement.

Domestic Abuse and Coercive Control

When the person who should have been safe, wasn't

Domestic abuse isn't always physical. Coercive control, emotional abuse, and manipulation can be just as damaging and often harder to name. If you're trying to make sense of what happened, or finding your way through the aftermath, I offer a space that is safe, non-judgmental and informed by extensive experience and specialist knowledge in this area.

The Parenthood Journey

Fertility, IVF and Pregnancy Loss

When the path to parenthood isn't going the way you hoped

Whether you're in the middle of fertility treatment, grieving a loss, or navigating the emotional exhaustion of not knowing, this is a space where all of it is welcome. Drawing on my own IVF journey, I understand the complexity and isolation this experience can bring, and I'll meet you in it

without judgement.

Parenting and Parenthood Challenges

When parenthood feels harder than you expected

Parenting can bring up feelings you weren't prepared for, overwhelm, loss of identity, relationship strain, or the grief of a parenthood journey that looked different to what you imagined. Whether you're adjusting to new parenthood or navigating longer-term challenges, I offer a non-judgmental

space to explore it all.

Let’s Take the Next Step Together

If something on this page has resonated, I'd love to hear from you. Your introductory session is 50 minutes for £40, a chance to meet, talk through what's brought you here, and see if working together feels right. There's no pressure to continue.
